Obaseki appoints Observer GM as Permanent Secretary

By: Idris Umar Momoh, Benin Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has appointed the Acting General Manager of the Bendel Newspapers Company Limited (BNCL), Barrister Solomon Imohosien as a Permanent Secretary. DailyNewsFocusngr reports, that Bendel Newspapers Company Limited (BNCL) is the publishers of the Observer titles. Solomon, is among the nine new permanent secretaries approved for appointment by the governor. A statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Osarodion Ogie, listed the appointed Permanent Secretaries to include Iryn Ekhorose Omorogiuwa, Nyamali Joseph Erumuse, Igbinomwnhia Naps Abieyuwa, Efosa Aisien. Others are Imoihosen Solomon Oziegbe, Peter Aibuedefe Osagie, Sabina A. Chikere, Osawemuenze Edith  Kayode-Iyasere and Bernard  Aigbe. Lawmakers approve N12bn loan facility for Delta govt

Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State The Delta State House of Assembly ( DTHA) has at plenary session  approved the sum of N12 billion Bridging Finance facility from Zenith Bank Plc for the state government. The lawmakers said the bridging finance credit was inflow from the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Chief Ferguson Onwo who  moved the motion for the approval  of loan said it was to cushion the effect of resumption of repayment of the Federal Government Intervention facilities on expiration of the forbearance period. The Speaker of the House, Hon.Rt. Sheriff Oborevwori said the request for the approval of the loan was sequel to a letter from the state governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa. Gabriel Iduseri,  the APC South-South zonal youth leader passed the vote of confidence on the governor of Yobe state on Wednesday at the zonal APC dialogue with support groups, social media influencers and young stakeholders in Benin City. The meeting had in its theme, "Winning Attitude:  Repositioning the APC Ahead of 2023". "I wish to use this medium to pass a resounding vote of confidence on the APC National Caretaker Committee. Edo Govt apologizes to protesting college of education students

----- Blames protest on communication gap By: Idris Umar Momoh Edo State government has apologised to the students of College of Education, Igueben over the last week peaceful protest carried  out by the students which paralysed activities at the school.  Joan Osa-Oviawe, the state commissioner of education, tendered the apology during a meeting with the students union leaders and the acting provost of the institution at the weekend in Benin City. Oviawe, who described the protest as unfortunate, however, attributed it to communication gap between the state government and the school management. While noting that the students have a right to be angry, she added that the action by the state government to close down the school for proper restructuring and reformation of the colleges of education system in the state  was not to destroy the education of the students but to lay solid educational foundation for the future students of the school. AAU LECTURERS VOW TO JOIN NATIONWIDE STRIKE

BY: IDRIS UMAR MOMOH, BENIN The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ambrose Alli University (AAU) Chapter on Wednesday said it will join other public universities in the country to embark on strike with a view to compelling the Federal government to sign the renegotiated 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement and meet other demands of the union. The body made the remark during its mobilization and sensitization congress held at the university premises in Ekpoma, Edo State.  A statement signed respectively by Cyril Ozeigbe Onogbosele, chairperson and William Odion, general secretary and made available to newsmen in Benin City said  the union's demands were contained in the various relevant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Memorandum of Action (MoA) the Federal Government entered into with the Union.  The statement said the university lecturers at the congress expressed strong resolve and readiness to join their colleagues in other public universities in the strike to compel the Gover
